The Human Experience

Do you ever look at someone and wonder what their life is like? What have they been through? What stories do they have to tell the good, the bad, and the ugly? Not out of judgement, but simply out of curiosity.
People are fascinating. We're all strange in our own ways, and that's what makes us interesting. If we were all the same, life would be incredibly boring just a world full of people doing the same robotic things. Sometimes it feels like that's what society wants, but it's our uniqueness and authenticity that truly say something about who we are.
I don't mean analysing people like lab rats. I just find people interesting. Every person you meet has lived a life you'll never fully know. They've experienced things that have shaped them into who they are today.
I've come to realise there is no right or wrong way of living life. What's right for one person in one moment may be completely wrong for another. We are all doing the best we can with what we know at the time.
I try not to judge people. I take them at face value and let their words meet their actions. I also try not to have too many expectations of myself or others. I say "try" because that's still a work in progress. Expectations can be hard to let go of when they've been so deeply embedded in us.
The trouble with expectations is that we often assume others think, feel, and act like we do. If you're kind, caring, thoughtful, and considerate, it's easy to expect the same from others. Then when someone is rude, hurtful, or selfish, we end up disappointed and often blame ourselves for expecting more.
Life and people are funny old things. I believe everyone who crosses our path teaches us something. We are all here learning, unlearning, healing, growing, and sometimes repeating lessons until they finally sink in. We all carry habits, beliefs, wounds, and patterns that we're trying to undo and rebuild in healthier ways.
Maybe our mistakes aren't really mistakes at all. Maybe they're part of the journey. After all, we're here having a human experience. Some people seem to have a smooth ride, while others are gripping the safety bar thinking, "Hold on to your hats, this is going to be a bumpy one."
Life is a bit like a rollercoaster. Some people complete the whole ride, while others leave before it reaches the end. But while we're here, we have choices. We have the power to change things, one step at a time.
Life and people are fascinating. The greatest illusion is believing we have no control. In reality, change begins with a choice.

The choice to want better, do better, and become better.
